Halo

She was in a hospital; that much was simple. Hallway after hallway she walked down, constantly checking around walls, doors and corners, but there was no one else here. Even though the building seemed to be abandoned she still had the unsteady feeling of being watched.

Lights flickered, and shadows followed her every move. The further she walked the emptier the hospital became. All doors were open, and rooms empty. She found no other room like the one she awoke in. No other people and no escape.

She needed to find help, but she had no idea where to start. The longer she walked the more useless she felt her escape became. She had no idea who she was, or what everything meant, but she would not give up. After turning down a sharp corner she saw a closed door. Intrigued she crept towards it. Pressing her ear against the cold metal, she heard nothing. Slowly she turned the handle and walked inside.

Alarms blared through the space. Loud, ear splitting sounds that sent a wave of nausea through her. The room was filled with machines. Computers and files lined one wall. She knew she should run, but she felt a pull to the room.

That was when she saw it. The symbol that called to her was pinned on the far wall. Hanging there for everyone to see. It pulled her to the room. ‘WANTED: ALL THOSES CONNECTED TO THE ‘SOCIETY’” Was written underneath the symbol. She looked down at her scared leg and ran her fingertips along the remains of the ink. She didn’t know who the Society was, but did her leg mean she was one of them? Why were they being hunted? Was this why she was in this place? Had she been a part of the society and been found?

Haunted by the sign that hung behind her she searched the room. Checking all files for any information she could find. All she found was that the society was a secret organisation wanted for treason. She couldn’t believe it; wouldn’t believe it.

“What are you doing here?” a voice came from behind her.

She whipped around to see a man dressed in a black suit. He wore a neutral expression and darkly tinted sunglasses. She knew she was being followed.

“Sarah, I think you should come with me,” he said, walking into the room and approaching her with fast steps.

Something in her flicked. She lashed out at the man, swinging her arms at random. He quickened his approach and dodged her wild attack, grabbing her left arm and pinning her against the wall. With her back against the wall, she could see the man properly. His eyes burned with hatred and his grip was beginning to bruise. she saw something glisten in the rooms lights and she looked down. The man had a gun tucked into the waistband on his pants. Looking back to the man she saw him smile and tighten his grip.

She had to escape.

Lashing out again with the last bit of strength she had she reached for the medical scalpel she tucked into the lining of the gown. Swinging her arm, it connected with his neck. His eyes went wind as his body went limp. He slumped to the ground as he let go of her.

Now was her chance. Grabbing the gun from the mans suit and pulling the scalpel from his neck, she ran from the room. Trying to leave behind all her nightmares.
