I DON'T NEED YOU!

She stood in front of the full-length mirror, stone faced and sullen.
Her face was pale and acne scars covered her freckled nose and chin. Grey/blue eyes blank and her red, straw like hair fell around her shoulders in knotted waves. Her left hand ran along her stomach, feeling for lumps and bumps that weren’t there, stretching her shirt wide to see what she thought others saw.
Stretching her head high she searched her neck for tendons and veins, when she saw none she moved her attention to her arms. Filled with muscles and covered in skin she squeezed her biceps. She felt the muscles contract and retract under her hands, letting her know that they were there.
Her legs shook, nearly making her fall. Righting herself she stared at the legs. Muscly and strong. She shook them and stood wide-eyed as she saw them jiggle and jump. The muscles in her calves protruding themselves, looking like they were going to jump off of her body.
She jumped on the spot and watched everywhere her body shook and moved. She had done this routine every day for the past five years, but today felt different. She wasn’t preoccupied with her body today. Her thoughts were on work and life, but she went through the routine anyway. After five years, it was a hard habit to break. Even though her thighs jiggled, and her arms shook with skin she didn’t take much notice. She was watching her face again.
For the first time in a long time her eyes were bright and she liked what she saw. It had taken some time, but she smiled at her reflection. Laughing to herself she moved away from the mirror and picked up her bag. Walking towards to door to leave, she took one final look back at the mirror.
“I don’t need you anymore” she told it, exiting the room.
